Palma is the capital city of the Balearic Islands and lies around 20 km from Santa Ponsa. Although Palma is not a resort destination where people go to spend their entire holiday, it is definitely a city that should be visited for a great day out.
Palma is one of cleanest, most beautiful and modern cities in Europe and visitors could easily spend a whole day just shopping, as it boasts a fantastic array of shops and boutiques to rival those of Paris or London. However it would be a shame to just shop when there are so many other interesting things to do.
The main attraction in Palma is the famous Gothic cathedral, Le Seu, which is an easy walk from the main shopping area and worth a visit. At night it is lit up in spectacular style.
There are many other historic buildings to discover including Arab baths which date back to the 10th century and building after building with impressive architecture.
There are also many art galleries and museums if you fancy a bit of culture on your day out.
One of the most attractive streets in Palma is the Paseo De Born which is a wide, tree lined street home to some of the best shops, cafes and restaurants in the city. Here you can sit with a coffee in one of the chic outdoor cafes and soak up the atmosphere, while you watch the world go by.
Paseo Maritmo is the main promenade of Palma and is maintained to a very high standard (as is the whole of Palma). Here you can take a comfortable and pleasant walk along the seafront which is lined with palm trees while you admire the yachts. There are many very good restaurants and bars all along the stretch of the paseo, so if you get peckish along the way it is no problem.
As the evening falls Palma comes alive, with the restaurant and bar/club culture thriving. There is something for everyone, from tapa bars to top class restaurants and from high class cocktail bars to big nightclubs.
You can get to Palma from Santa Ponsa by bus. The most direct bus route is the no.102 and it takes about 25 minutes and costs under 3 Euros one way.
Alternatively, a taxi directly to the city centre will cost around 30 Euros and only takes about 15 minutes.
Whatever you decide to do on your visit to Palma it is sure to be a memorable and very enjoyable day out.
